We are committed to expanding and supporting accessibility for all our Symphony musicians, volunteers, and ticket holders.
Visitor Accommodations
Ticketing
- For help with ticket purchases or to learn more about accessible seating options, pleas call our Box Office at 605-394-1786.
- Or you can visit our Box Office in person between Noon and 5 pm, weekdays.
- The Box Office is located on the back of the Performing Arts Center building. Enter through the Studio Theater entrance that is accessed from 5th Street.
Parking
- We have a number of wheelchair accessible and van accessible parking spaces in front the Performing Arts Center on Columbus Street.
- During cold or extreme winter weather, we offer entrance and parking in the Studio Theater entrance and parking lot which are closer.
- Please call 605-394-1786 weekdays to arrange for accomodations

- All public entrances to the Performing Arts Center include at least one set of automatic doors.
- All public entrances are wheelchair accessible with navigable ramps.
- For musicians needing accomodation to backstage areas, please call the Symphony Office at 605-348-4676.
- For snow removal or ice concerns, please call the Box Office at 605-394-1786.
Physical Accessibility
- All public entrances to the Performing Arts Center include at least one set of automatic doors.
- All public entrances are wheelchair accessible with navigable ramps.
- We have 2 elevators that provide access to the 2nd floor of the building.
- For wheelchair (and other mobility device) accessible seating, please call our Box Office weekdays at 605-394-1786.
- For help in finding the elevators or accessible seating before, during and after concerts, please ask the House Manager, or any of the ushers (usually wearing white tops and black bottoms.)
- Balcony seating (excepting the top row) is accessed by stairs.
- Main floor seating is all accessible by ramp.
- We have quiet room in off the main floor mezzanine with a large window. This room is available for people who need sound accomodations or for small children who just need a minute.

Service Animals
- We welcome service animals.
- NOTE: the BHSO plays music at a variety of volumes and with sudden percussive sounds. Please take care with your service animal's wellbeing.
- A service animal must be trained to take a specific action to assist with a disability.
- Exclusions: Animals that provide only comfort, companionship, or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.
- The handler must maintain control of the animal, typically using a leash, harness, or tether, unless this inhibits the animal's tasks.
Assistive Listening Devices
- Assistive Listening Devices are available at our Box Office or Will Call office during all performances.
- We are working to upgrade and improve the Listening Devices and will update this information as it becomes available
Information in Accessible Formats
- We are working on captioning or sign language interpreters for all performances.
- As of February 2026, we do have have accommodations in place.
Captioning
- Captioning is not yet available, but we hope to add it soon.
Sign Language Interpretation
- Sign Language Interpretation is not yet available but we hope to incorporate it soon..
